How We Rate Canadian Online Casinos for Safety

Two things drive our ranking: whether a public body in the reader's province has authority over the operator, and how completely the operator documents its own terms. Everything else is secondary, and some of what other sites rank on we deliberately refuse to score at all.

What we score

Provincial standing. A site conducted and managed by a provincial body outranks an offshore one automatically, because approval can be conditioned or withdrawn by a regulator in the player's own jurisdiction. None of the operators on our current list holds that standing, so the criterion does not separate them, and we record that rather than dropping the criterion.
A published turnover requirement. A stated multiple beats an absent one even when the stated figure is worse, because a figure on the record can be assessed before a reader accepts an offer.
Dated terms. A capture date is what makes a figure checkable later. Undated terms are unusable and we treat them that way.
Cost of entry. The qualifying deposit, because it sets the price of testing an unfamiliar operator. Across our current lineup that runs from C$1 to C$45.
Currency the offer is priced in. We record the operator's own currency and never convert it. Two brands on our list publish in euros and appear here in euros.

What we refuse to score

Payout speed. Untested by us, therefore unranked by us.
Return to player and game fairness. Not our evidence and not our subject.
Audit badges. We hold no sourced audit evidence for these operators.
Availability in a province we could not verify. Excluded from the ranking rather than guessed at. The relevant section of the main page explains exactly which question this is.

Where a rating comes from

The score on each card is our editorial assessment across those criteria. It is a judgement rather than a measurement and we would rather label it that way. Where the evidence runs out, the page says so.

When we revisit

Bonus terms change without notice and provincial regimes change with a great deal of notice that players rarely see. We re-check published terms on a rolling basis, and we re-check the two regulated provinces whenever a regulator publishes something new.
