Prairie Gaming Policy Reporter, Calgary AB

I cover how Prairie gaming policy gets made and what happens to players at the other end of it. That means bills and orders and the unglamorous division of labour between a regulator and a provincial corporation, rather than bonus sizes. It is a narrow subject and 2026 made it briefly a live one, because Alberta spent fourteen months turning a piece of legislation into a working market.

What I cover here

The iGaming Alberta Act and what Bill 48 actually authorised. The split between the AGLC, which regulates and approves operators, and the Alberta iGaming Corporation, which conducts and manages the market. Ontario's 2022 opening as the precedent Alberta copied, including the two-body structure and the logo test the AGCO tells players to use. And the difference, in practice rather than in principle, between a province that has built a supervision regime and a province that has not.

What I do not cover

I am not a licensing specialist and I do not interpret an individual operator's licence, which is a different discipline. I do not walk readers through a dispute or a complaint. I do not write about return to player, payment rails, withdrawal speed or account limits. And I do not adjudicate whether a named operator is trustworthy, because that is a verdict about evidence I do not hold.

How I work

I name institutions precisely and I use the verbs the documents use, because "registers", "approves" and "conducts and manages" are three different things and collapsing them is how a reader ends up believing a site is supervised when it is not. Where a fact is contested I attribute it. Where two sources give different dates I publish neither and say so, which is why this site says Alberta opened in mid-July 2026 and stops there. And when I cannot confirm something, I write that I could not confirm it, which is a sentence this category needs more of.
